>HistoryA combat gem from beginning to end. Knowing that once assigned a job she would have to dedicate herself to it for life, she chose the sword, because it was what gems of high hardness like corundums were best at, and because combat was the easiest thing for her to understand and refine.
As a combat gem and as a Corundum, she wholeheartedly believed that her purpose was to constantly risk herself in combat and sacrifice herself for the safety of her sisters, and that her entire worth depended on how good she was at breaking things, scattering pyroclasts, protecting gems, and how brilliant she was.
Due to her lack of color and constant comparison with other corundums like Padparadscha, who for thousands of years had been considered the strongest gem, she developed feelings of inadequacy that she wanted to cover up by dyeing her hair blue and calling herself Sapphire. Because that's how it should be, red corundums were called Rubies, pink ones Padparadschas, and blue ones Sapphires, while white Corundums were rare, unusual things. She would be just like all the other corundums before her, strong, brilliant, and talented, it was the most natural thing for a gem of her material. If she didn't excel at what she was predisposed to and couldn't do any other more delicate or intellectual job well, she would only be a hindrance prone to scratching everything in her path and accidentally breaking her sisters, which would be the only thing she would be good for.
After finishing her training and initial education, she was assigned Taaffeite as a companion, a gem of lower hardness than her, than her teacher Ruby, and than the gem she aspired to reach, which she interpreted as another sign that she was still not good enough. The relationship with her companion was complicated due to the latter's closed-off, serious, and inexpressive attitude, which contrasted with her own more carefree and rebellious one. They had some friction and accidents during their time together, but before they got too close, they were separated after a living cloud split Leuco Sapphire in half and swallowed her.
The cloud that kidnapped her was called Tara, her real target was not Sapphire but her older sister Dio, who looked very similar to her when she dyed her hair. The accidental kidnapping had all been part of a plot by a crust gem named Rutile, who had previously destroyed two gems very dear to Taaffeite in front of her eyes. Believing that being captured would mean the same for her as for all the other gems that fell in combat and were swallowed by the crust, Sapphire did what any combat gem would do and attacked Rutile until she destroyed her, despite feeling at a disadvantage and being sure that it would be the last thing she would do before being forever kidnapped to the depths of the earth.
Incredibly, the nimbian Sitadel Tara was completely friendly with Sapphire, revealing that Rutile had manipulated her into complying with his plan, she promised to return Corundum safely to Earth Crystal in a year when her cloud made its way around the world, and she revealed to her and a couple of her sisters many truths about Earth Crystal and its leader Fluorite that she would have preferred to ignore at that moment.
Sapphire's life within the academy up to that point was filled with re-educations, incidents, and rebellions. The more time she spent in crystal society, the more flaws she found in it and the more she cultivated her fantasies of crossing the sea surrounding the island in any direction and getting lost exploring the world. After having defeated an enemy of the academy that neither Padparadscha nor anyone else had been able to break, being captured in combat and surviving, she thought it was the best time to leave the academy behind and live for and by herself. She thought about it for a long time without fully deciding.
The year she had to think alone reminded her that she hated being alone, that she loved her sisters, and that although it might not be healthy for her, she couldn't get rid of her desires as a combat gem to protect and make other gems happy. She had always been sociable and restless; spending so much time floating in one place, with Tara, an android, and the voices of a couple of her sisters who wouldn't stop talking about stressful secrets, didn't help her maintain a healthy mind.
At some point during her journey through the atmosphere, she came to the conclusion that she would never endure so much time away from another gem; she would need at least one companion to remain stable. Shortly after, she began to communicate remotely with Uranocircite, a radioactive gem who didn't have much interaction with others and practically lived in exile in a cave. Her conversations with Circita, although not all of them were as pleasant or casual, helped her endure the lack of sleep and isolation in the atmosphere. She had to talk about something that didn't have to do with the war between Fluorite and the Exocrodus Humans, and it was Urano who gave her the relief she needed. As they both shared some feelings towards the academy and a desire to abandon it to explore the world for perhaps different reasons, she proposed that they run away together when she returned to the surface.
Previously, she thought her purpose was to destroy pyroclasts, that as a combat gem her only purpose was to break the academy's enemies. She was happy to fulfill that purpose to protect her sisters and wouldn't have minded continuing to fight for thousands of years. But after discovering that the only reason pyroclasts attacked her sisters was to reach their leader, that the war between the crust and the surface was just a war between Fluorite and humans, and that Fluorite wasn't even a real gem, she suspected she had dedicated her life to something useless, that she wasn't really protecting her sisters, that the enemy hadn't completely wiped them out though they could have just to make their leader suffer, and that continuing to fight wouldn't save the gems.
She enjoyed fighting just as she enjoyed any physical activity where she could move a lot or demonstrate the hardness of her mineral, but fighting was only good for the academy as long as there was an enemy that it was right to break, otherwise it would only be a danger to the other gems. She hated feeling useless as much as breaking her sisters. But her discoveries made her work useless, even the last two enemies she broke were crust gems that left a strange feeling in her throat after the fight, so she decided to put down her sword and look for another way to help her sisters that wasn't fighting. Pink Diamond, the last pyroclastic gem she fought, suggested that she could stop the war if she returned to the crust to talk to Peridotite, the leader of the underground, but Sapphire had another promise to keep first.
She fell hundreds of meters from her cloud and shattered into hundreds of pieces upon hitting the crystalline earth. She had to be repaired with remnants of Padparadscha's hair so she could wake up and speak one last time with her sisters at the academy, reveal secrets about their leader and their enemies, and finally say goodbye before leaving with Uranus to travel the world. But the execution of the escape plan from the academy came earlier than she expected and became a plan to escape the planet and all the conflicts between gems and pyroclasts. Sapphire wasn't really prepared to abandon her sisters forever and save only herself when she could still do something for the others and had to say goodbye to Circita.
Uranus took off in a Meth satellite towards the sky while Sapphire returned to the academy once more with a group of Emeth androids to try to save it from Peridotite's invasion, unable to stop sacrificing herself to protect her sisters in any way she could. In a final effort to help the crystalline society, she negotiated with the leader of the crust and agreed to take the place of the traitorous Pink Diamond underground, where she continues to seek an alternative to end the war and allow her sisters to live in peace, free from crust attacks.
>PersonalityDue to a need to be the best at whatever she decided to do, she fought and trained at every opportunity and in her free time with any available gem or pyroclast. She hid her dedication to combat with a cheerful, carefree, and unserious attitude, which she used to hide how little she knew about any subject more complex than sword fighting and her insecurities about these and other things.
Her rebelliousness, occasional jokes, lies, and tendency to contradict and make up stories earned her several re-educations, as well as leading her to associate a lot with more marginalized, strange, and less popular gems like Tanzanite, Uranocircite, and Chrysocolla. She enjoyed surprising others just to see their reactions and try to make them happy. The latter took on greater significance when her suspicions were validated that pyroclasts generated suffering with intentions to destabilize gems and weaken them.
Currently, she remains a restless gem who prefers physical activity over study, but refuses to fight against other gems or pyroclasts.
To avoid arousing suspicions of treason, she abandoned her rebellious attitude and now expresses her opinion more openly and without lies, even though she finds it ironic that it was a pyroclastic gem who taught her to suspect others and manipulate them for something other than harmless pranks.
She tries to remain happy and make others happy with whom she interacts, as Circita wanted her to, but it's not as easy as it used to be.
>ParticularityColorless and transparent variety of sapphire. The optical transparency of the crystal contains a wide range of wavelengths. Radiation resistant. Immune to ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
Repaired from pieces of Ruby, Padparadscha, Pink Diamond, Block, and Ash. The Block part in her torso gives her greater flexibility and allows her to rotate the half of her body 360 degrees.
>AppearanceShe used to dye her hair blue to appear as a regular Sapphire and insist on being called just Sapphire. Currently, she is mostly white to gray, with a red arm, black torso and fingers, and pink throat and cheeks.
She likes to wear clothes with very long sleeves that hide her hands, for fun and preference, not out of insecurity.
I thought of using the character sheet to summarize Sapphire's story so far, I don't love it but I did it. The character I'm using now has black outfits, I'm going to imagine she dresses like that on the surface even though I don't see them as very gothic.>>114757My Padpá was Padparadscha, the strongest gem of all. She looked like Mori Calliope but had to cut her hair to repair my throat after another Padparadscha ripped it out to remove the pieces of Rutile I swallowed. If OP didn't tell you that you can't, it must be because there's no problem with you using the same appearance for your fusion, it will just be funny if I see you looking like that within the role.
